The Viola Foundation Walter Witte has commissioned a composition for viola solo for competition from the internationally active, award-winning contemporary composer Isabel Mundry, which will be about 8 minutes long and available on June 1st, 2025.
Now and in the future, commissioned works will be an important part of the competition, giving the young artists a work that has no performance history to test their interpretive skills.
In addition to challenging the musicians with a completely new work, the HIVC hopes to enrich the viola repertoire by commissioning a truly outstanding composer to write a work that will be played long after the competition for which it was written.
