Competition 2021

The competition focuses on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Similar to Hindemith himself, we want to make new discoveries without neglecting the roots and achievements of previous epochs. Both the works of Paul Hindemith and new compositions will always be integral parts of the competition.

History

The Hindemith International Viola Competition emerged from the "Hindemith Competition of the Viola Foundation Walter Witte". For decades this had been a prominent podium for the current elite of violists who study at German universities.

An excellent jury of renowned viola professors from all over the Federal Republic of Germany have lent their expertise to the competition for many years

The new, permanent venue for the now restructured competition will be the University of Music and Theater Munich. We are very happy to have begun our cooperation with the University of Music and Theater Munich in 2020.
